Type of State & Shape of PING
Armenia is considered to be a Nation-State. This is due to the very high population of Armenians (see graph above) who all share one culture and are one as a nation in its state borders. People in Armenia share one culture, one example of this would be that people speak Armenian, which is an Indo-European language. Another example of this would be their shared religion of Christianity. This Nation-State tends to be quite small compared to its surrounding countries like Turkey, Iran, Azerbaijan, etc. Armenia tends to look like a protruted state, because of its "arm" which is towards the lower half of Armenia which extends out from its center point. Armenia is also somewhat surrounded by Azerbaijan which cause a major border conflict which led to war. The conflict of war started over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. This conflict started around 1994 and now seems to be "in peace" as of 2012.

American Translation
Our Fatherland, free, independent, That has for centuries lived, Is now summoning its sons To the free, independent Armenia. Here is a flag for you, my brother, That I have sewn Over the sleepless nights, And bathed in my tears. Look at it, tricolored, A valuable symbol for us. Let it shine against the enemy, Let you, Armenia, be glorious forever. Death is the same everywhere, A man dies but once, Blessed is the one that dies For the freedom of his nation. |
Armenia's Flag And It's Symbolism
History/ Symbolism:
Armenia's Flag was adopted in the year 1990 by The Armenia Supreme Soviet and still remains! This flag consists of three horizontal stripes each with one color, red on the top, blue in the middle, and orange on the bottom. Each of the colors on the flag have a meaning, each of which is stated in the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. For example red stands for " the Armenian Highland, the Armenian people's continued struggle for survival, maintenance of the Christian faith, Armenia's independence and freedom." The blue stands for "the will of the people of Armenia to live beneath peaceful skies." And the orange stands for "the creative talent and hard-working nature of the people of Armenia." Overall this flag is, in my opinion a very beautiful flag with a very beautiful meaning.
